Spectrum is costing too much, now over $100 month for second best package.

Have a Samsung smart tv and started watching their free service. Had planned on Sling Blue for $35/month. But after watching this free service, I think I'll just stick with it. No MSNBC, but I can catch the good parts of the shows I watch here on DU the next morning.

Get TYT and Vice and like those, I'm finding out. $1,200 a year adds up and might get me to watch less tv and get up and move more too.

Anyone else just watch Samsung?

1. There are multiple streams available for free on the internet to watch MSNBC and CNN.

I don't have cable or satellite and I watch MSNBC and CNN using the internet.

For TV, I have Amazon Fire Stick.

I gave up on satellite (cable is not available in my area) 4 years ago.

2. I have no cable or satellite, only Netflix, Prime, and HBO

So I've cut the cord, but I could not, myself, only have the free stuff that comes on a smart TV. Biggest reason is nothing that's free ... is also commercial-free ... and I freaking hate commercials. And I don't want to deal with a DVR that would let me avoid them.

I also have an extensive media library of DVD and BluRay rips on my PC that I can stream to my TV.

Sports are the only thing I miss, but honestly ... there's ways around that problem

4. I only watch 1or 2 movies a year.

Samsung free tv has about150 channels. Most I’ve never heard of like 24 hours of Bay Watch. Watch news and it has CNN, NBC and ABC 24 hr news. I have Amazon Prime, but never watch it because I have a Mac and all of the apps are fore Android only.
I can watch most of the local news streaming on my computer. Partner likes real crime stuff like the First 48 and this service has at least 2 channels of that.
I really like free.

11. Okay, well, if you're happy, great. But point of fact you absolutely can watch Prime

on a Mac computer.

If you're interested, pay close attention here, this gets complex ...

1) Navigate (or 'surf') to Amazon.com in a 'browser'. Some common browsers are known as 'Safari', and 'Chrome'.
2) Now ... 'Sign In' to Amazon.com on your browser program, if it doesn't happen automatically when you visit the website, which it might. What you want is to see your name in the upper right of the browser there. Something like "Hello, multigraincracker'. You may have to do something on your phone (or maybe your wife's?) to facilitate this Sign-In process.
3) Once you've Signed In, look for a 'toolbar' in your browser window. It will be just underneath the Header section, that's the one with the Search Box. In the toolbar, there should be a link there saying 'Prime Video'. Click that.

Et Voila ... Prime Video ... on your Mac.

3. I think Roku TV is good too.

My only expense is Netflix. And between Netflix, Roku TV, and YouTube, I have more than enough to watch.
In fact, my list is just too large to ever get to watch them. Occasionally I will binge a series but that is once per month or two.

5. I cut out cable three weeks ago to save

$145/ month for Basic Plus. Now I have Netflix and Amazon Prime and trial Acorn, Britbox, PBS, etc.

The only thing I watched on cable was MSNBC and CNN and I can get the news on the internet. I hate commercials as well.

The interface is a mess of ads and junk. But a window will appear with the broadcast in a few seconds.

Once you find your channel, click to expand the screen to block out all the junk on the interface. This has been my main news source for years.

Tried a digital dish antenna and didn't get a thing. From what I have found on the net, I'd need to speed a couple of hundred. Might try it someday.

16. Samsung TV...

I have a Samsung smart TV and I do see the channels listed, but they've never worked for me. I just figured they would never work so I didn't make an effort to see if I could get them to work.

I cut the cable about 7 years ago and haven't looked back. I have 2 OTA antennas, a Tablo OTA DVR device, stream Netflix, Amazon, and Discovery+. We also purchase the NHL streaming package. For about 40 bucks a month, we have all we need or want to watch.

I'm concerned that streaming services will eventually merge and become 3 huge streaming services forcing everyone to purchase one of a limited number of packages for an outrageous price that includes commercials and a ton of programming that nobody ever watches... But until then, I'll enjoy this brief period of consumer freedom.

Now have Metronet here in SW Ohio....I use YouTube TV with package for $85...all is good...I have also Netflix, Epic, Paramount, Disney Amazon Prime/firestick...filled to the gills...YouTube TV has MSNBC....

I get free Samsungtv. I have Amazon prime but pay no more than the $99 yearly fee and just use it for free shipping.
Found 3 tv stations that live stream news over the net. Samsung has about 70 stations, thanks to this post(see post 8) I can live stream MSNBC live. I don't watch movies, haven't for about 10 years. Now just have to find local pro and college sports for free. Saving over $100/month. Doing more reading and music. Looking at Amazon, I might be able to get pro football and basketball on that. I see they have baseball.

On SS and a pension and that $1,200 a year sounds nice.

24. I didn't know it at the time, just bought a Samsung about 4 or 5 years ago.

It comes with the tv, just connect to internet. I do like getting the Young Turks and a few other channels. Lots of 24hr Baywatch and old cowboy movies. ABC and CBS 24hr, 3 surf channels and such.

I got a really great deal on it, Black Friday or some such thing and like the tv. I did just order a digital aerial from Amazon for local PBS. It was $49.99 and I can send it back if it doesn't work.

30. The technology and apps on smart TVs becomes obsolete pretty fast

You could invest $50-100 for a Roku and watch free stuff on Roku:
My fave free apps are: You Tube, PBS (streaming, not live) and Tubi.
For live news I like CBSN
