Looking forward to watching "SOPHIE - A Murder in West Cork "on Netflix, A Documentary

This three-part series examines one of Ireland’s most famous murder cases, the death of French producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in the town of Schull, West Cork in 1996. The brutal murder, which shocked the country, triggered one of the biggest murder investigations Ireland had ever seen and became a national obsession. The documentary will chart the circumstances of her death, unravelling the extraordinary story from its beginning, 24 years ago to the present day. With exclusive access to Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s family, the series will bring together, for the first time, the views of her family with Ian Bailey, the man at the centre of the investigation.

7. Sure, the core problem is that the Gardai (police) botched the investigation

Including a witness statement from a woman that placed Bailey at a nearby bridge, but she later recanted, and other questionable witness statements. Rather like OJ, most people believe he did it, and the irony is that if he had gone to prison, he would have been long since released. Instead he has gone through a 25 year outdoor sentence where he can't leave the country because the French have an international arrest warrant out for him. In fact, the French quite outrageously tried him in absentia, and found him guilty on circumstantial evidence, despite the Irish High Court ruling that he can't be extradited.

It's sad that there is really no conclusion as to who did it. I'm not convinced the writer did it.

there was enough evidence to charge him—though France’s system has—but that he’s a terribly good candidate, in the sense of opportunity and profile, also circumstantial. The folks there know.
