The Many Saints of Newark (Sopranos prequel)

I just watched this last night. HBO Max had it streaming the month of October for free.

I was so looking forward to this movie. I thought it was going to be more about Tony Sopranos upbringing and how he grew into being the boss.

It hardly even went there.

Maybe my expectations were way to high, but I was disappointed in this movie. Especially since it was written by David Chase who did the Sopranos.

Anyone else watch it?

but I spent more time trying to figure who was who to pay attention to the story line much.

4. I think I spent most of the time (spoilers)

trying to figure out if Christopher was his nephew or cousin or neither.

And why did Dickie tell his uncle in prison that his wife couldn't have kids? To make us think Chris was from his mistress? Still not clear to me.

When Dickie Sr. died, I thought: whew, no more Ray Liotta, good. Loved him in Goodfellas, but never since, don't know why.

I did like the young Sil and Paulie, though, lol...

2. I have never been in interested in mobster movies, biker gangs, etc.

3. Yeah, it ended at the point where I had hoped it would begin

And I didn't watch it until this weekend so now it is gone, can't watch again to see it with that persective.

It's like they're setting it up for a TV series, which, I'll admit, I would very likely watch.

It set the background for which Tony Sporano made his mark.

6. I loved it because I approached it with an open mind (SPOILER)

Admittedly, I knew the story revolved around Dickie Moltisanti and NOT young Anthony Soprano. Chase gave us a taste of the Tony to come.

It was a good story, beautifully shot and styled, and included a much-needed addition of the black perspective that worked along side the Lupertazzi crime family.

Think of it as Act I. It's up to us to imagine Act II, or, wait for another film. There's so much more to explore. I bet David Chase can't wait to tell us.
