"Your Christmas or Mine?" on Amazon Prime
Today is the first day in thirty years that our house has no fur friends in residence so I was feeling pretty down and decided to watch this movie, the kind I would normally avoid, because I needed a distraction and the plot seemed intriguing, and possibly therapeutically silly. A couple (Asa Butterfield, Cora Kirk) studying at a London acting school say their goodbyes at the train station as they each head to their respective home towns for Christmas break but they separately come up with the same idea: hop the other one's train and surprise them by spending Christmas together. Both are certainly surprised as he becomes stuck with her boistrous, Christmas-loving, row-house family while she is stranded at his ancestral estate with his grim, aristocratic father, a freak snowstorm having cancelled all the necessary train routes. The secrets they've kept from each other and their families are slowly revealed, and a few plot twists ensure the inevitable cheery ending. Funny, well-acted, fast-paced and sentimental, this movie is a fine way to get into the yuletide mood.
