Waking the Dead **** I
I like this series for a lot of reasons, but I think the main one is because it's so spare and clean visually. Limited cast; good, simple, stylized costumes; stark sets. Contrasted it with the similarly themed Da Vinci's Inquest. DVI is quite busy and sloppy. This carries through even to the dialog. WTD dialog is crisp, fast flowing and sharp; the characters enunciate. Even with a non-Amerian accent they are easy to understand. DVI is more natural and consequently sloppier and harder to understand. I have to say that one of my pet peeves with current movies and TV shows is the lack of elocution by the actors. It's so refreshing to find actors who can open their mouth and form proper (and understandable) sounds.
I didn't give this series 5 stars, but I like it a lot and, were it possible I would give it 4.5.

(42,239 posts)We don't use the expression haitus much in the UK. We also don't call them "seasons" : we refer to them as "series"
I can see from the above there's been a misunderstanding anyway as I was taking about the UK's/BBC's Waking The Dead.

(26,674 posts)so likable, however, and it often seemed to me (esp. in earlier seasons) that the team succeeded in spite of him rather than because of. An excellent portrayal of a pretty screwed-up person...

(29,945 posts)I thought the writers "played" with his character, making him officious and egotistical in some
seasons, ostentatiously "eccentic" in others, and pretty decent in still others.
He seemed "pretty decent" to me in the first couple of seasons and became
more weird, in my view, down the road.
