(30,225 posts)1986 - NYC - July 4th. Tall ships parade. one of the biggest fireworks displays I've ever seen... and I watched it from the roof of Gregory Hines apartment. He invited the entire building to his party on the rooftop. Classy guy.

(35,988 posts)The battleship, I think it was USS Iowa was parked at the end at the pier on Hudson at the end of my street, it took up more than a block, it went out in the channel, and the helicopters landed, and deposited Pres.Ronald Reagan on deck. I watched the whole thing, first time I ever got a sunburn in New York City. Youre right some things you never forget

(18,653 posts)from when you were doing better and now. For example, has your diet changed, has there been a change in your sleep habits like staying up later, any change in vitamins or prescriptions, has work required more physical exertion, have you been seeing friends more or less and document any and all changes then think about each change to see if/how one or multiple changes could have had an impact on your condition.

(20,560 posts)Husband reposed 4 years ago. Cardiac arrest. I keep busy, have a very small circle of 'friends', but feel more and more isolated as time advances. I don't want to be 'needy'. I give passes to some who I kinda sorta expected to keep supporting me even at a minimum.
Presently I'm limiting news intake. Repetitive mention of you-know-who and his ilk.
I am not a fan of mood altering meds. There may be an underlying issue like thryroid that I been meaning to check out.
Was hospitalized November '21. ER said covid. Perhaps but asymptomatic. Find out 2 months later reading my chart, systemic infection (UTI), E coli, sepsis. Not positive I went into sepsis or was close. So this experience contributes.
Forgive me please. I overshot the runway.

But my first suggestion is to get a complete check up now! Do not delay!

(4,691 posts)I am probably in a similar boat with ME/CFS. However, I was really, REALLY dragging myself around (barely) and told my doctor when I had my annual checkup. She had my B12 checked and it was low. With OTC supplements I felt much better within three weeks. I don't know how it got so depleted, but it was night and day. Now at least I CAN exercise and have post-exercise malaise for three days--but still! It's a big improvement.
Best wishes to you for finding your answer. There is more attention being paid now that $$$ is available to study long COVID, which is probably related via the post-viral connection.

(20,560 posts)I actually got injections that hit the bloodstream immediately not getting diluted thru digestion.
Going to see about my level. One needs taking assertive measures at times re: one's doctoring.
I did end up w/AFib, my eyes are a bit messed up, gait is off. So I feel yes, long covid symptoms.

(14,270 posts)I may not know your specific challenges right now, but I *DO* know that you are NOT alone.
This life has been very challenging the past few years, and even more so in the past couple months. I dont know how I am getting by either. I try to at least find something lovely in my day each day, whether it's a bird or a view or something else. Little moments of joy are sometimes all we've got to help

(113,131 posts)Emotional stress can do things like raise cortisol levels and that can raise blood sugar and do a lot of other things to our bodies. Physical illness, or getting over a severe one or recovering from surgery can all cause depression.
It might be time for a checkup to rule out any physical stuff that might be lurking in the background.

(604 posts)I was a nurse for violent psychiatric patients who actually had COVID pre-vaccine. Fighting all care, tearing off our inadequate PPE, not understanding why they felt so horrid.
I refused to just leave them die and gave them the best care possible, my patients survived more than patients on other floors, against all odds.
But then I got COVID I was the last nurse to get it and had a blasting viral load.
I could stand and run steps and run a building and exercise and take care of everything I needed to without any issues and no medication.
I got long covid which changed my ability to breathe and function and my life is I once knew it is over and I'm trying to adjust but it's been a hard road to hoe.
Big hugs to you, whatever is going on. Hang in there.
And you are not alone here, I do not post much but visit every day, and many posts make me feel better and more hopeful.

(20,560 posts)Covid may still be wreaking havoc in their lives. Just that when one becomes instantly spouse-less, one feels that the scripture speaking of the widow and orphan will be manifest even in a small simple act.

There is reason for every thing. Id start with a MD and and a good shrink. In the mean time lots of walks and stay with the healthy eating. First sign of a fever get to the ER.
Best of luck and get well wishes.

(84,494 posts)This is just the best-Best-BEST group of fellow travelers I've ever had the luck to luck into.
They all have hearts as big as all outdoors and shoulders so broad they could stretch across the Pacific. It's become my family-away-from-family by now. Nobody here may have walked in your shoes, but I bet EVERYBODY here knows his or her way around the shoe department.
I'm glad you cared enough to share. We will lift you up and keep you company, and this is such a broad-based group that somebody out there is gonna have an idea or suggestion that will actually help in the most practical sense. Something that actually can be done, or an action/approach that can actually be taken. You never know! I've found that, in some low moments, I personally have actually felt comforted by remembering what our own Skittles once famously said: "someone's always here."

(3,444 posts)...and enjoy your posts here. I hope you will do as others have suggested and journal your symptoms and see your doctor. I know fatigue is a main symptom of Epstein Barr (I think that's what you meant), so you could be having a flare up. I do hope you feel better soon!! Let us know how you're doing. And in the meantime, maybe this will help a little...

(18,166 posts)a trying and difficult day. I had "Thistle and Shamrock" on NPR. This song was on by Dougie MacLean; he'd donated it as a fundraiser incentive. It spoke to me so personally that I had to pull over and listen to it. I've returned to it as needed when needed:

(14,316 posts)A lot of us live alone, and that magnifies problems. And I hope you find a great diagnostician to get to root causes and do some curing.
I get all my news from the short links here and at Hacker News. TV is too mind-controlling. I pick and choose what I want to look at in detail, or not. Try to keep the energy positive.

(5,201 posts)situation - some isolation, faltering energy, aware of decreased motivation, etc.
I don't have a lot of answers, but can recommend some little things...
- I make sure I do what I can to get eight hrs sleep, even if it means a very late start to the day.
(I've told anyone who might contact me that I don't take calls before noon. That works fairly well, but not perfect.)
- I try to take advantage of sunny days and sit outside for a while. I find the sun healing both physically and spiritually.
- Observe nature around you - birds, flora and fauna. They give a sense of peace of mind. Occasionally go to a quiet public
park and observe the people, younger and older, and their pets.
-Eat regularly - healthy though not fancy or heavy meals, take enough fluid to not be dehydrated.
- Like you, I'm especially adverse to seeing or hearing rancorous politicians or pundits. PBS offers programs of interest or
entertainment which pass the time pleasantly.
- I'm not so good about phoning people, but lately I've begun writing a brief card or note to a relative or friend. I'm also
posting what I know of family history on Facebook for younger relatives, as so much of that information will be lost when I
pass on.
Forgive those who need forgiving.
That's it for tonight. You've been well attended to by DUers above. Will be back in touch soon.
