I am 55 years old and that is my longest run since high school (I could do 8 miles back then.) I was planning on running 4 miles but at around 3.5 the endorphins really kicked in and I kept on going.
I have run in a few local 5ks in the past. I am going to do my first 10k this fall. My goal is to complete it in under an hour.
anyway... just wanted to share this personal accomplishment.

(10,005 posts)Why is it that whatever ones choice of aerobic exercise, sometimes it's a brutal slog, sometimes average and other times an unending delight where one could go on seemingly forever and unstoppable?
I've never been able to figure out a connection to any of those states with beforehand diet, sleep, stress, conditioning, mood, etc. it remains a mystery to me.

(28,686 posts)I do know that when I least feel like going for a run, I get the most out of it. I love that feeling at the end when it seems that I can go on forever.

(2,917 posts)you mentioned and really getting in that zone. Obviously all that stuff is really important to your overall health and general athletic ability. But I've had those hard slogs on a good night's sleep and I have I had some incredibly euphoric runs after a night of shit sleep - and vice versa. And lots of those average ones.

(25,283 posts)Always jogged a 1 2 or 3 mile loop weekly since I was a teen. 55 years old too.
My longest run in the past was around 6 or 7 miles. Was hoping to do what you are now doing but the foot is crap now. Have gotten back to weights but no running...
Good luck with the 10k!!!! Maybe a half marathon after that? I can live vicariously.
