Mental Health Support
Related: About this forumHad a severe panic attack today
I made a post the other day talking about how I got confronted at work by some customer demanding I take my mask off. He did he closer and that's when I snapped. I told him to fuck off.
Since then I've been rattled about it getting worse. People are getting more and more crazy and I'm at the point where I'm constantly worried about my life now. I went through many anxiety attacks today when I was stocking shelves. I kept looking over my shoulder each time people walked by.
This doesn't play well on my mental health right now. I had to drop my therapist because I could no longer afford it and now I can't talk about it.
I keep thinking about tomorrow and how I know I'm gonna have severe anxiety again. I don't know what to do

(10,403 posts)I shouldn't even be stocking shelves. My main job was to load trucks in the warehouse. But so many people are out due to the virus they are shorthanded.

(24,067 posts)I will only add a hug for you vercetti2021...these are such hard days. I find myself closing my eyes and breathing deeply multiple times a day to get through the toughest moments. Keep wearing your mask...screw the naysayers.

(10,403 posts)Fearing for my life because of the virus is one thing. But I fear for my life for protecting myself now because one person is having a bad day and takes it out in a mask wearing individual

(5,367 posts)Try to focus on getting through 10 minutes at a time. See if that helps. Work on your breathing. And when you get home, don't think about the situation any further. Negative thoughts aren't real and don't help you. Stay strong!! You can DO this!!

Maybe share your unease here on DU, where others among us can read and offer comfort, support, and maybe advice? At least some empathy and understanding, maybe?
There are some very wise people here. Personally, the perspective I get from reading around here is always so valuable. And you can put your thoughts into words at any time of day or night. Remember what our own Skittles once said - "someone's always here." I swear, just that simple three-word message, all by itself, has really buoyed me up during funky times.
Don't struggle with this alone.

(2,657 posts)The most important thing that I did to stop it from happening was learning how to control my blood sugar. You see, when your blood sugar drops, your body often dumps chemicals into your bloodstream like cortisol or adrenalin, which can actually ramp up your level of anxiety. Please make sure that you are eating at least three balanced meals a day (balanced with roughly equal amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fat). If at all possible, this is not the time to be on a diet. If you can, keep a backpack with you at all times with bottled water and something to eat that like protein bars or granola bars. Often, intense stress can make us feel like not eating, but often that is exactly when you should eat. Practice eating in a slow relaxed manner, drinking plenty of water, and thoroughly chewing your food. Focusing on your chewing can distract you from whatever you might be stressing about. I found that the better I got at eating slowly, the more relaxed I became overall.
Once you have your eating habits down, relaxation breathing exercises can help, along with gentle walks and making sure that you get plenty of rest. Overall, focusing on your own personal heallth can help you be more relaxed and distract you from other worries in your life. Good luck.

Deep dark chocolate, infused with Raspberry flavor and cannabis oil. Stuff is yummy and is packed with THC.

(223,396 posts)When I was in my 20s, I sometimes had bad panic attacks. I was told to breathe into a small paper bag and that really did help, I carried one with me for years. But about the anxiety, I agree with the others that you should speak to your boss. No one should be faced with abuse on the job and you can't be the only one - if there are others, you should speak to management together. Hang in there! I'm in New York and anyone I see working anywhere these days (only groceries and gas stations are open) is wearing a mask and usually gloves.
