I try to think of nothing. It's not that easy to do. Clear your mind and see how long you can go without a thought entering your mind.

Ekhart Tolle who wrote The Power of Now believes that our thoughts aren't who we are, we are the entity who watches or listens to our thoughts, our thoughts are our ego who wants to take control of us.

Tolle wrote some excellent books worth reading.

3. I started, can't remember the source, of trying to clear my mind for just 10 seconds.

That was 2 breaths.

From there, a full minute was easy - often times, not always.

Sometimes I use it to fall asleep.

I like that practice.

4. Many years ago I had a good friend working on his Psychology Doctorate.

He helped me combat negative and intrusive thoughts I would have. He had a small, bright red stop sign he'd hold up if I got negative or on a tangent. We worked on visualizing that stop sign and I still see it in my mind if I get on a negative thought too long. My therapy with him was over 30 years ago and it still helps me 😊
