Been out of work since March. In that time I turned 60! Ive exhausted myself job hunting. The only thing good in my life is that my 16 year old cat is still breathing next to me. Im tired of not sleeping, boredom, frustration, crying and not recognizing that person in the mirror anymore.

(83 posts)In my market - Denver - I rarely even get an email back much less an interview.
First of all, I'm old.
Secondly, I'm a woman.
Here, they hire young and cheap and don't care about my years of experience and how I can run circles around all of them!
Most important thing you can do right now: Take care of yourself in every way you possibly can.
My new mantra: "Don't wast time doing things that don't move you toward your goal." This includes mindless TV, hours reading Twitter and being pissed off at what's happening to our country, regretting anything and gossiping with friends.
I just read an awesome book that really helped me. I signed up for Audible and got it free. The author reads the book and his Scottish accent makes it so good. I try to listen to a few minutes of it every day.

Hang in there. Never surrender. Never stop asking for help.
You'll get there!

(2,314 posts)Some days, the most you can accomplish is to get through them. I'm lucky that I made it to retirement age and have a comfortable situation, but I've been dealing with depression and anxiety as fun aftereffects of cancer treatment. On the bad days I just read murder mystery books, try for a yummy dinner, and look forward to 11:30 (when I take my sleep aid).
Give yourself time and find something, anything, you like to do. Take a walk. Go to the library. Cook something new. Write about how you feel. Hugs.

(12,120 posts)Your right sometimes its all you can do is get through another day. I hope your situation gets better as well. Depression is bad enough the anxiety and nonstop worrying is horrible. Keeping you in my thoughts for brighter days.

(38,452 posts)Now it's a daily struggle. I turned 60 last year & feel like most of my days are just killing time, so what the fuck is the point? The political situation has added a whole heavy layer to the mix. Wish I could be more upbeat, but I too look in the mirror & wonder who that sad looking person is.
