Is it typical to see 1-2 star ratings online for Behavioral Health

Hospitals? I mean for inpatient stays for 1 week to 1 month to work on depression, self-injurious behaviors, substance abuse, behavior modification, etc.

I am reviewing facilities in case someone close to me needs help. The facilities that are in-network have some 5 star ratings, but also lots of 1 and 2 star ratings. Some of it is easily dismissed, like for food choices. Other stuff, where it appears patient rights have been violated or they have been abused, is scary.

Any advice on what to not look at and what I should be reviewing?

If you know any mental health providers, ask them. Your GP may have some input. Private is generally better than public. Public tends to not pay as well so lots of entry level providers and high turnover. They may mean well but just don't have the experience you can find at a better paying facility.

Even just the waiting room might help. I've worked in plenty of hospitals over the years (and other institutions).

I can tell a lot just by walking down the hallway (how it felt, safety, openness). You can see if there is an air of calm, order, respect.

As for how well a month of treatment can go - well, it can get someone pointed in the right direction (which is a good thing). But as you know, the work is ongoing - and that hard work starts post-discharge.
