Update on Al's eye: The tests they did yesterday indicate that the damage to his eye was probably caused by his diabetes. There isn't anything that can be done to treat the eye. However, between the eye itself and the brain, his body may "learn to compensate" for the damage to give him some recovery of the lost vision. Doctor says his chances of recovering any of the lost vision are 50-50.

He essentially had a VERY small stroke in his eye. The fact that it was a small stroke worked against him. Because the instant change in his vision was slight (and it happened at 1:30 in the morning), he waited until he got up the next day to seek attention. With a stroke in the eye, there is a 90=minute window to get medical attention, otherwise, the damage is permanent.

Moral of the story: DO NOT dismiss very sudden changes in your vision despite how minor the change is.

Few Ritz crackers, to just begin my day (@ 3 p.m!!!)

Too hot to go out, no idea what I'll do. Too many fruit flies hanging around, so no idea what I'll do later. But your whitefish salad sounds SO good. HAD a great Deli near our DC house, what TREATS! Had a dramatic 'super bagel' back in the day, for brunches.

It was on sale. Usually it's too expensive. I'm making a note to go back and get another package while it's still on sale!

The bagel was super, too. I buy them from a bagel store that does a wonderful job of making them. So much bigger and better than at the supermarket and the same price, too.

It's too hot here, too. 90. I'll wait until evening to go do any gardening. Meanwhile, I have plenty of indoor projects.
