What's for Dinner, Thurs., Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, 2024

Dark meat turkey roast, whipped cauliflower (looks like mashed potatoes). Roasted cauliflower in Balsamic with turkey bacon.

The RG send me chocolate from Italy, so that's what is for dessert.

The main was boneless pork chops in an apple cider/green apple saute with garlic & onions. I cooked down the apple juice mix into a sort of pan sauce. Decafe tea for me, my sister had a beer.

Much later will be dessert, a slice of pumpkin roll.

Edited- The cats got their weekly can of wet food

One year, I was coming back from Monterey the day before I hosted a large Thanksgiving dinner. We stopped at a farm stand and bought a stalk of Brussels sprouts, which had been in the field minutes earlier. I cooked them very simply, just slicing them off the stalk into boiling salted water. People fought over them, the vegetarians claiming they were entitled to more.

Now the only way I'll eat Brussels sprouts is right off the stalk

I bought one of the Jenny-O frozen turkey breasts that you just cook from frozen, in the bag, until it reaches 165°. It took 2.5 hours today. Then I made the gravy from the packet that came with the turkey.

I also made Stove Top Turkey stuffing and broccoli. And I have a cherry pie.

I love mashed potatoes but the Stove Top and pie are enough carbs.

Oh and of course, jellied cranberry sauce.

We stopped stressing over thanksgiving,
We don’t go anywhere with my wife working retail. One daughter lives half way across country, the other here, so the 4 of us go out.

From the crowd at the restaurant, it’s a very popular and zero stress way to do thanksgiving.

It was a 24hr joint. Everybody had to work at least 4 hours whether it was your normal day off or not.

It was always so much more relaxed than our average days. People were more pleasant and tips were pretty good.

Have no family. Not cooking for one.
Plus, I'm a horrible cook, and I would probably die from eating what I had cooked.

8. We were invited to my brother's house nearby

to have an early dinner with 8 other family members (all Dems). My brother and his wife are great cooks and they were happy to accommodate the diets of my wife and I who don’t eat dairy, eggs, or meat except for a weekly serving of seafood, usually wild caught salmon or shrimp. While all the guests enjoyed the deep fried turkey he made outside, for us he broiled a beautiful halibut steak that had been sent to him from a friend who caught it in Alaska, had it flash frozen and shipped pronto to my brother last month. It was melt in your mouth delicious. They also were kind enough to use Miyoko’s vegan butter in all the sides that needed it from steamed green beans to the fantastic cornbread stuffing. My wife made a scrumptious pumpkin pie to compliment the other wonderful desserts. I’m still stuffed. Happy Thanksgiving and Cheers! 🥂

Pumpkin seed spread with parsley and garlic. Liverwurst Snowball pate`

SnacksGiving for daughter and me.

Kabucha squash, turkey leftovers, brie with almonds, pear, and dried cherries for tomorrow's snacking. No big heavy meal, just good snacking and listening to music, chatting, and spoiling the dogs and cat with bits of turkey.
