What's for Dinner, Thurs., April 23, 2026

I thought I invented a hash, but in looking up the definition of "hash", I found I did not. Hash is just a protein, usually steak or hamburger, fried with onions and other vegetables. I think it includes potatoes.

What I had been doing was cabbage, broccoli, garlic, and onion, sauteed and caramelized. Also I would add those little creamer potatoes. Sometimes I might add Beyond sausage, which sort of made it a vegetarian hash.

Anyway, I made up a good supply this a.m. which I plan on serving in a flour tortilla.

For dessert, an entire container of Talenti chocolate chip-coffee ice cream.

I am treating myself very well tonight because I got through my busiest week of the year, which included sitting next to a MAGAt at a convention and having hundreds of students work in the the school garden yesterday.

You should step it up a notch, though. Maybe get a EXTRA container of Talenti ice cream for sitting next to a MAGAt at the convention. Brave you!

We're in Philadelphia through tomorrow. The Landlady/Archeologist has a meeting/presentation tomorrow at the Penn Museum to discuss the findings she participated in in Panama where they found gold and artifacts that were 900-1,200 years old.

Anyway, We're going to a French restaurant near Rittenhouse Square called Le Parc. Je pense que ce sera délicieux!

That sounds very much like the Irish colcannon or Scots rumbledethumps, to which they sometimes add a protein on the side.

For my part, I had leftover (cold) BBQ soy curls (looks like super-rich mystery meat of some kind) rolled up in a WW tortilla with jalapeño sauce. Actually, it was my only meal today, so I granted myself permission to have a second after I inhaled one. Even better than it was hot the other night.

The RG is a Scotsman, so I will ask him about this!

Only once in our 40 years together has he been unable to answer a food question I asked.

And he had never heard of it! However, he said immediately those ingredients would be delicious together.

I looked it up and here's one of many recipes/ingredient lists I found

Ingredients Needed to Make Rumbledethumps
1kg of potatoes (approx 2lbs)
1 savoy cabbage (250g or 0.5lb)
75g of butter (0.1lb)
100g of mature cheddar cheese (0.2lb)
2 small onions (optional)

I am going to put cheese on my next helping!
