What's for Dinner, Tues., May 19, 2026

Cold Vegetable Plate & a Sandwich.

Celery from my garden
Carrot sticks
Red pepper slices
Pear tomatoes
Cucumber slices

I made a few sauces to go with them:

Mascarpone/mayo dip with dill
Soy-ginger-scallion dip, sweetened with agave
Caesar dressing with extra black pepper and parmesan

I dressed the plate with oak leaf lettuce. I wanted to cut it before the heat turned it bitter.

IrisBlue has been mentioning sourdough bread, so I bought a seeded loaf. Sounded good, thus: avocado and turkey bacon sandwich.

Kombucha: watermelon

Dessert: a little cold coffee-chocolate chip ice cream.

I finally bought a 15,000 BTU Japanese Iwatani counter-top butane burner and can use my woks again. Also, several of my older cast iron skillets have slightly warped bottoms-- fine on a gas flame but not so good on an electric glass cook top.

Made my usual adapted meatloaf recipe, substituting 2 cans of kidney beans for a lb of ground beef. Also made steamed broccoli with mushrooms in mustard sauce and air-fried purple sweet potato fries. Cheers!🥂

Dinner at dinnertime—how rare!

Still a lazy meal—frozen black bean taquitos with jalapeño sauce for dipping—but it’s been long enough that it’s really hitting the spot.

Considering baking some dark chocolate chip cookies later on (at a ridiculous hour, no doubt) to make up for the healthfulness of this meal.
