Related: About this forumThe garlic scapes are starting to appear
This year's garlic crop looks to be one of the best I've ever had. Every year I think, 'look up and see if I should or shouldn't snip the scapes.' and every year I forget. Until this year.
I'm going to snip them to leave more energy to go to the bulbs. I'll let some get big enough to harvest and use. I'm thinking of making some garlic scape pesto.

(3,035 posts)My kids, who I turned into Garlic Fiends, ate through the initial batch while eating it with pasta one night.
I used a Monkey Bread recipe and reworked the cinnamon, sugar, and butter to include garlic scapes, olive oil, Italian seasoning, and Romano cheese. It was pretty good.

My whole family love garlic so having a big crop is important so I can share.

Between the garlic, basil and oregano, working in some of my gardens triggers a mighty appetite. I really look forward to harvesting and cooking the produce I grow.

(89 posts)I put in more garlic than ever this past fall, and have let garlic seed and sprout along my fencelines also. I planted garlic, red onions, marigolds, and nasturtiums at the ends of my rows to hopefully ward off squirrels. I snipped my scapes this past week and used some to simmer in a pot of black beans, delicious.
