Eerie Sight at the Garden Last Night

Pretty lights everywhere!

It's so hot, I don't even go until 7. Still gives me 90" of daylight.

Other gardeners show up even later.

I was really busy last night. I had an elevated raised bed crash on me at home (pic below), and I decided to take about 20 10-inch high bell pepper plants that survived to this particular school garden because they have the space. I was busy digging them in, watering them, and putting straw over them to protect them from the heat that's here today: it's 90 now and it is only 11:20.

Seven gardeners had come while I was paying attention, but as the evening wore on, I quit noticing who was there. After I finished my peppers, I looked up and there were lights--it seemed like in each bed! It was very pretty, almost magical. Not to mention, there were fireflies everywhere. Dazzling!

Upon looking further, I could see more gardeners had arrived and were gardening in their spaces using their cell phone light! One person would hold the cell phone for the other gardener. This is where the eerie lighting was coming from.

That was a gardener's "nightcap."

I don't know how to take pics at night on my cell phone but here are a few shots of my garden at home:

Elevated raised beds (ERB) in front of greenhouse. The one on the right crashed on me a few years ago. All these ERBs need better support.

I love the way this drapes over the sides of the bed.

On guard!

Here's the pic of the crashed bed:

Sorry your raised bed gave out, but good that you had a place to re-home the plants elsewhere.

Is that balsam in the top photo? I haven't seen balsam flowers for a while. Don't know why they're not more popular. Mine used to reseed, but not recently.

Fabulous flower and one that I would miss terribly if it didn't re-seed. Here's a little movie I made of it

The bees love it!

If you want some seeds, let me know and I'll send you some.

And I like your “supervisor “! Is he on his break there?

We picked our first 3 cukes yesterday.

I, too, noticed the first fireflies of the year recently. What a pleasant surprise to finally see them. I remember years ago some cousins visited here who live in Oklahoma. They had never seen fireflies before and were just enthralled. I never realized some parts of the country don’t have them.

That’s what’s so great about gardening…you think you’re done…no, just a different thing to do.
