Hurrah for Forsythia Season! I'm Eager for Any Insights You Might Have

On the appeal of these lovely blossoms for birds. I was amused to watch two little PBBs having a shredding contest just next to our window the other day, and the next day my spouse noted that a crow was waging war on one across the street.

I'm particularly interested in whether this plant attracts lots of insects, which would not seem to justify the actual shredding and warfare, or whether there is an abundance of nutrition in the flowers themselves. Still not a justification for the unusual frenzy.
