Just a silly cat story

We ran out of cat food last night. I live pretty far out and had to go to town to work today so decided to eke us on by. I was also out of cigarettes so no one was particularly thrilled– but I couldn’t justify running to Sheetz, which is 15 min each way, for smokes when they were out of food.

This morning before work, as I sifted through the ashtrays on the deck for butts, I decided to give them a can of the chicken I keep in the pantry for making chicken salad. Rinsed it in hot water to take off the sulfur-y smell, to warm it up a bit and everything. They were most unimpressed.

Next, I got the stepladder out and checked the back of the catfood cupboard above the stove. Lo and behold! There was a can of catfood in the way back! Unfortunately, it was high-end stuff, also chicken, and it actually looked better quality than the people-grade chicken they had already turned their noses up at. Again, they were predictably unimpressed. They looooove Friskies pates and are iffy on the high end foods. Cats. SMH.

In desperation, I turned to the bags of Temptations treats in the pantry. Oh, well, I thought. It won’t hurt them, it will be a nice little treat to tide them over for a few hours. Grabbed a bag at random and as I poured it in their dry food dish (and on Fifi’s head as she gobbled them like she hadn’t been fed in daaaaaays), I noticed they were green. Huh. By now Bee’s got his head in the dish, too. Then I notice on the bag: they are catnip flavored/enhanced. A gift from their Grandma. Oh, my. There was no limit or warning on the bag so I shrugged and went to brush my teeth.

By the time I finished brushing my teeth, Bee was right outside the bathroom door, flopped upside down and purring with a stupid look on his face. He was very pleased.

The bowl was empty. Fifi was MIA but I could hear a jingly ball being batted around down in the basement. I had to leave but really wish I had cameras in here to see how their day went.

Everyone was fine when I got home and we now have catfood and cigarettes so all is right again.

They may have forgotten all about what was going on before the treats so they might not even be mad.

They all love Friskies, in any style.

So far, Merlin seems fine with what ever kitten food I give him.

food (including, to my utter astonishment! an entire, alcohol-soaked, fruitcake). My little rescue is no different. So, even if I run out of his canned food (and thank goodness he loves all kinds!), there is always whatever Mom is having, or one of those tuna or salmon or chicken pouches.
