I just woke from a nap, with a strong desire, to adopt a dog !!!
It's all I can think about, lots of good furries at shelter,
I 63 had a dog beside me for 50 years
It's time again? Now that I'm alone? LilGlad is great, but cats rule the rooster, dogs love, get ya outside, to walk

Looking into getting a pup; may or may not work out.

P.S. not necessarily 'expensive,' but for emergencies; innoculations necessary. And not too demaning, tho walks are necessary; good for US!!!

10. Dogs are expensive and demanding

I'm a cat person, adopted my dog Milo 6 years ago.
I love him, but he needs walks and attention, and sometimes I'm not in the mood.

It's good he gets me out for a walk.
Many shelters have programs where you walk the dogs. Maybe you could do that. And you could foster a dog which would let you have one short term til you decide you want one. It's a big commitment.

Outside at midnight or 3 in the morning when it starts whinning? How about the cleanup when it has diarrhea or barfs all over,? Vet bills?

I keep thinking about getting another one but conclude I'm not able to care for one the way it should be.

With your coming treatments, you need a warm dog beside you.
However, you should make it a small dog.
Re-read the chances of a good prognosis for you. You and a young small dog (they live longer) can grow old together and trust me a small dog is easier for an older person to pick up than a large one. (Think vet visits.)
A small dog does not eat as much -
The poop is also smaller and easier to pick up-
You can bathe them in the kitchen sink - better for an old back as you age.

a small dog does not take up as much room when it takes over your bed and sleeps sideways in the middle.
I was 72 when I rescued the Yorkie half bro and sis, he was twelve wks. old and she 15 wks.
