I want to thank all of you for your kind condolences on the passing of Pixie.

It helps a lot to share the loss because everyone on this forum has gone through it and understands. Our animal companions just don't stay with us long enough, do they? But we wouldn't want to live without them anyway, even knowing the eventual outcome. At 17 years a cat is on borrowed time, maybe even more so for a dog, but knowing what's coming doesn't make it any easier when it happens. And then we do it all over again because having them in our lives is worth the grief when their lives end. Thank you all again.

When we adopt a pet, chances are pretty good we will outlive them. But we do what we can to make their time here better Walleye Feb 12 #3

...who told me not to feel guilty about welcoming a successor sooner rather than later, also said very much the same thing you did - we welcome our animals into our lives, knowing full well we will likely outlive them, but we do it anyway, because life is better with them in it.

I was also touched by the person you quoted who spoke of himself as "4 cats old." I've had cats off and on (mostly on) since I was 5, and by his reckoning, I am 25 cats old. Lots of paw prints on my 73 year old heart. We haven't had only one cat in a very long time. The jump from 2 to 3 is the biggest change, I think, and after that, it's like, "Hey, what's one more?"

I wouldn't want to live in a world with no furry creatures.

Too many pawprints on this old heart to count.

Accept my condolences. I have a couple of older kitties myself. Outdoor tame feral cat going on 15 years now. I got him a little warmed house this winter and I’m glad I did.
