South Carolina African American Heritage Foundation Invites Applicants for Summer Institute

The South Carolina African American Heritage Foundation (SCAAHF) is accepting applications from social studies and visual and performing arts teachers and college students majoring in arts education to participate in an institute at Historic Penn Center on St. Helena Island, June 17 through June 21, 2019. Participants will be immersed in the Gullah Geechee Culture and given strategies to assist with developing lesson plans.

Twenty-five participants will be selected for the institute from K-12 teachers, coordinators and college students majoring in arts education. Instructional lesson plans developed by institute participants will be published in the SCAAHC Teacher’s Guide Arts Integration Supplement. Curriculum will include field excursions to Sandy Island, Brookgreen Gardens, St. Helena Island and Hilton Head Island.

I would love to go, but I simply don't have the appropriate background for this.

I love language and linguistics, and I'm totally fascinated by everything connected to those topics. I will confess that I'm a boring white woman with zero connection to that part of the country, but the very tiny bit I know is fascinating to me.
