Aurora police: Suicidal veteran diagnosed wtih PTSD killed by officer
Associated Press • Updated: June 7, 2014 at 7:20 am

AURORA — A man described by police as a suicidal veteran was shot and killed by an officer.

Aurora police Lt. Gary Millspaugh told The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/SCo4t1 ) that the man was shot Friday afternoon after he aimed a rifle at an officer. The man's name has not been released.

Millspaugh said officers responded to the home after a psychologist called 911. Millspaugh said the therapist told police that the man was a military veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder who was abusing his psychotropic medications, drinking alcohol, and may have been suicidal.

Aurora police spokesman Chris Amsler said the man met police in the driveway of his home when the officers got out of their squad car.

Based on the information reported the officers appeared to have little choice. I wonder what drove the man to go abuse his meds? Looks like he was receiving treatment if he was medicated.
