May 27, 2015 by Elizabeth Jackson
The expansion of medical cannabis admittance to United States veterans has won the US Senate Appropriations Committees approval in a very startling vote of 18 to 12. It was an unusual election being the first of its kind in the Senate. This will give The Veterans Equal treatment to the residents about the Access of the drug.
With this vote, Veterans Administration doctors can now administer marijuana related therapies and medication to their patients without fear of being victimized. Use of Medical Marijuana is illegal according to the current federal law. A VA doctors cannot even fill out an authorization form for their patients to allow them participate in state-sanctioned medical cannabis programs.
The bill that was sponsored by Republican Senator Steve Daines of Montana and Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon will now set VA doctors free from the hook the of the law.
The two Senators have argued their case over the bill that veterans have been discriminated upon, an act that is not only inhuman but also inconveniencing. Fair treatment of veterans has also gained support from Michael Collins, who is the Drug Policy Alliance policy manager. Collins feels that the Veterans have served the country relatively safe.
