Related: About this forumThe neighbors the coyotes very vocal this morning
Theyre yipping and talking with each other as I have my coffee. I enjoy listening to them ,the domestic pack right paw boog the chocolate lab is laying on porch next to me. Occasionally letting out a low growl as the coyotes sound off. You know Im not trying to jinx it but knock wood since the neighbors moved in and expanded. I have noticed the skunk population has declined last year boog got sprayed three times. This year boog skunk spray zero not trying to jinx it. I have in eight years learned never to underestimate a boog but knock wood. They showed up maybe around ten years ago and actually probably before that.
But I enjoy sitting here listening to them when I can. Boog probably not so much as his canine brothers and sisters talk to each other. He lets out a growl I ask him what are they telling us man they cannot move in ,We dont have enough sofas for them its not gonna happen. See boog dogs love furniture why would a boog lay on a hardwood floor Im not a barbarian man.

(17,498 posts)This is one way yotes hunt. They do that to scare and fllush out prey that is bedded down or hiding. Once they suddenly stop, they are on the kill. Tearing apart and eating their prey alive.
They are pack hunters. It's what they do.
That sound sends shivers down my back. It's natural, and normal, but something is about to get torn apart.

(15,023 posts)"In areas with little or no human activity, coyotes will hunt during the day, and when a litter of pups needs to be fed, they may have to hunt around the clock. Coyotes normally hunt alone or in pairs and rarely as a pack, unless the prey is a deer or other large animal." http://www.coyotesmarts.org/coyotes101/ There are lots of coyotes in Texas and I never seen them in packs or pairs. Always alone. Two cats in two different areas have been eaten by them. One was in the early evening on a back patio area in Austin. The othere in a different part of Austin just disappeared but it was in an area where there was nightly howling.

(9,307 posts)I've had more than 10 running together - all yelping at the same time. I'm in the high desert of NM.

(172 posts)many of the oldest residents of the area would gather at the one-room church/school (from the 1800's) across from our farmhouse to sing hymns on Friday nights. None were under 70. One night, as I sat on the porch listening to their full-throated but totally off-key renditions, a large pack of coyotes took up station nearby and joined in. Most incredible racket I have ever heard.

(93,098 posts)I not only got to hear coyotes regularly, I also got to hear wolves on occasion. I miss that now that I have had to move out of the mountains.

(767 posts)Years ago I heard them barking at night. Now they have moved on to other areas. The rabbit population has increased in my area. I guess the pack has found better eating or some nut decided to shoot the natural predator which controlled pests.........
