Related: About this forumHow you going to keep them down on the farm....
I have a flock of chickens that free range on the 5 acres around the house. Usually they stay in bounds, but lately 1 rooster and 1 hen have been wandering. I found out the hen is crossing the road to get at bird seed dropped on the ground from a neighbor's feeder.
Any ideas short of penning the flock?
Pen the trouble makers?

(46,179 posts)1. A perimeter fence.
Also protects them from wingless predators.

A trained dog is expensive and then you would have to train them specifically to keep the chickens from crossing the road. I think a fence would be easier.

(36,286 posts)3. I started going out about everty hour or so and tossing out somethig the chickens really love -
dry cat food, bird seed, food scraps, etc.
I was feeling really good, because all six black hens were there every time.
Then yesterday, I counted seven black hens!

"Why are you crossing the road?"
