I am ashamed of humans.

It is sickening that someone thinks like this.

6. He apologised for embarrassing his department...

Never mentioned how he did so.

So, no he didn't apologize to Tomlin. He didn't apologize for using that word.

The city council did a quick slide to the left, slide to the right, cha cha real smooth, by saying that they can't fire or discipline the volanteer fire chief.

Cecil is my old stomping grounds. I played ball and wrestled at the old HS (on a visiting team. I didn't live there) and it sounds the same now as it did in the 70s.

right in their faces, in a recent visit to where I grew up. I said it many times with fury. Also, I said I've never used that word before, god damned, and tis true.
It was the only thing that fit.
They are the Christian sort.who say they aren't racist, but...as they make a racist remark.

I'm glad I did it. Felt good to call them out, regardless of the consequences.

He also couldnt resist whining about the media reporting what he posted.

Fire chief who directed racial slur at Steelers' Mike Tomlin is out of a job

The fire chief in a town outside Pittsburgh is out of a job after he targeted a racial slur at Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin on Facebook over the team’s decision stay in the locker room for the national anthem on Sunday.

Smith’s use of the slur drew a rebuke from officials in Cecil, a town located about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, and, later Tuesday, the township's board of supervisors announced "Smith is no longer the Volunteer Fire Chief at the Muse Volunteer Fire Company."
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday that Smith had resigned.

“The media dragged my fire company and township into this as well as my family,” said Paul Smith, former chief of the Muse Township Volunteer Fire Department in Cecil, in a statement to the newspaper.

His :cough: "apology" (different source)

Reaction to Smith’s post in Cecil Township was quick, negative, and lead to his removal as chief.

-snip-

Wes Leopold reacted to Smith’s post, saying, “It’s kind of a dumb thing to do. I think, there’s enough tension in this country. He’s definitely adding to it.”

Chief Smith is out of the country on vacation, but on Facebook, he responded to KDKA:

“I am embarrassed at this. I want to apologize. I was frustrated and angry at the Steelers not standing the anthem. This had nothing to do with my Fire Department. I regret what I said.”

“My fire department should have never been dragged into this. It was a bad judgement by me, for which I am very embarrassed, for them and my township.”

The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors issued a statement saying they are “deeply disturbed” by Chief Smith’s comments.

“The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors is deeply disturbed by the comments made by Volunteer Chief Smith, and in no way, shape or form condone his comments. In that the volunteer fire departments are independent entities, the board suggests contacting the president of the Muse Fire Department regarding any further comment or action.”
