Related: About this forumWell, in response to Nikki Haley's recent claim
- claim that the Confederate Flag was "never about racism until Dylan Roof 'Hijacked it'."
Let me quote someone who disagrees
""We are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race." William T. Thompson.
Now, you're probably wondering who the hell is this asshole?
well, he designed and lobbied for the adoption of the second Confederate Flag. Which consisted of the battle flag on a white field.
Here is his logic:
"While we consider the flag which has been adopted by the senate as a very decided improvement of the old United States flag, we still think the battle flag on a pure white field would be more appropriate and handsome.
Such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young confederacy, and sustained by the brave hearts and strong arms of the south, it would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations, and be hailed by the civilized world as THE WHITE MAN'S FLAG."
Nikki needs to STFU and read a book

(3,635 posts)Nearly the entire history of the Confederate States of America was hijacked shortly after the 1876 presidential election. The concept of the "Lost Cause" and "States Rights" were rewritten into US history. It's easily dispelled by reading what you already have noted and any of the state succession proclomations that the cause of the Civil War was slavery. If one walks on the fields of Gettysburg it should be apparent to anyone with half a brain that the Confederate monuments were put there well after the Union Soldiers were no longer able to care for the grounds and the battlefield was turned over to the US park service. It's maddening that I was taught these concepts in school and only by reading on my own many years later was I able to determine that the whole treatment of the Civil War has been one big white wash (acknowledging the poor choice of words).

(6,448 posts)Once in a bathroom stall, I saw that someone had written "WHITE POWER" on the wall.
I took a 2 foot section of TP, wrote "Here's your white power. Now use it." And hung it over the handicapped safety bar.
That 2 foot flag would symbolize their twisted ignorance and s*** for brains.

(19,374 posts)From the infamous cornerstone speech...
...its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slaverysubordination to the superior raceis his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.
In 1865, trying to downplay the slavery bit, he stepped in it even deeper.....
Slavery was without doubt the occasion of secession; out of it rose the breach of compact, for instance, on the part of several Northern States in refusing to comply with Constitutional obligations as to rendition of fugitives from service, a course betraying total disregard for all constitutional barriers and guarantees.
OH! So it was a Constitutional question at the heart of the matter. A Constitutional question with roots in slavery. Epic fail, Alex. The forerunner of even greater epic fails at downplaying the obvious.....slavery was the reason for their treason, no matter how you define it, couch it or just plain lie about it.

(760 posts)If it was not used by racists to terrorize most everybody except the pale faces, I wouldn't have a problem with that symbol.
But it is what it is, and it ain't what it ain't.
Keep it in your house, so I can gracefully make an excuse to leave.
Keep it on your underwear, so no matter how drunk I am, I won't make that mistake.
Keep it out of my government, because the 14th amendment has made equal protection, the law of the land.
Equal protection should extend to me not having to see a rope with a hangman's noose on it when I visit the courthouse.
I am lilly white, born and raised in Bama/Tennessee and it makes my blood boil to see trump & Nikki as acting representatives of my country. The war ended in 1865 and your square flag and your mental illness need to be over and done with.
