Related: About this forumWhat Fiction are you reading this week, October 27, 2024?
I early-voted Wednesday. Best idea ever. Relieved me of so much stress.
Still reading The Cabinet of Dr. Leng. Such an intricate tale.
Listening to White Fire, from 2013, also by Preston & Child. Pendergast meets Holmes. A great story read by a great reader, Rene Auberjonois. 5 out of 5 stars for me. Perfectly creepy.
Have a safe and fun Halloween.

(26,405 posts)writer, but he does go into a lot more history than I sometimes want to read when setting up his current day novels. Up next, Joseph Finder "Suspicion."
Awaiting the new Louse Penny, but the hold list is long at my library.

(4,240 posts)I also reread State of Terror. She co-authored with Hillary Clinton.
Reads like yesterdays headlines. Magats and t and Putin.
Some Gamache and Three Pines when the plot winds too tense.
Top Canadian spy master in moose and bear pjs. Mais oui.
So much better than I remembered. Now that Im more educated and can catch all the subtle politics.

(4,015 posts)After that, a much needed visit with Chet and Bernie in Bark to the Future, Spencer Quinn. Laugh at the titles if you will, but the mysteries are serious, with great humor and insight. A former high school baseball teammate of Bernie's goes missing, and he and Chet "are plunged into a dangerous case where the past isn't dead and future could be fatal."
Next will be something spooky for Halloween week. Wishing you treats and good reading.

Falling 2021
You will crash the plane or we will kill your family. I will not crash the plane and you will not kill my family.
Drowning: the rescue of flight 1421 2023
Crash into the ocean and there are survivors. I cant swim.
Worst Case Scenario 2024
Plane crashes into nuclear power plant. Authors real life exchange with a pilot:I thought those plants were protected. Thats what they want you to think.
Best Ive read in a long time. Breathtaking thrillers. All plane disasters. Author was a flight attendant for ten years. And a bookseller. She keeps the tension high, the characters real.
Dont start reading until you get off the plane.

(10,369 posts)starting to drag at about 3/4 way through.
t's the 19th century on the Gulf Coast, a time of opportunity and lawlessness. After escaping the Texas brothel where she'd been a virtual prisoner, Lucinda Carter heads for Middle Bayou to meet her lover, who has a plan to make them both rich, chasing rumors of a pirate's buried treasure.
Meanwhile, Nate Cannon, a young Texas policeman with a pure heart and a strong sense of justice, is on the hunt for a ruthless killer named McGill who has claimed the lives of men, women, and even children across the frontier.
Who -- if anyone -- will survive when their paths finally cross? As Lucinda and Nate's stories converge, guns are drawn, debts are paid, and Kathleen Kent delivers an unforgettable portrait of a woman who will stop at nothing to make a new life for herself.
Thank you for the weekly thread, hermetic. Happy Halloween!
