Anyone here read any John Norman ?

1. Many years ago I started reading the Gor books

I was in my late teens and I thought the first couple of them had potential but... It did not take very long before they really kind of sucked. Just a diffrent excuse to tell you why women really wanted to be slaves. It was kind of like, yeah yeah, you put this out for 3/4 of the pages in each book, get on with some story. I gave up after four or five of them and was sorry I had wasted that much time on them.

5. My suspicion

I think "John Norman" was the house name for a stable of writers...hacks paid for their word-count.
Was it Spider Robinson who committed "Nosepickers of Dawr"?

7. A friend of mine was an employee of Del Rey books in the mid-80s

At that time, Norman was the hottest selling author in the shop.

I'll admit I read the first 4 or 5 books starting in '78 or so. His world building was strong, but I got tired of some of the recurring issues. However, he did get a metric butt-load of books printed.

8. A Friend Had a Title

Sadomasochists of Gor. I read many of the Gor Books. I stopped when I got a girlfriend.

I forgot to add 'Stockbrokers of Gor'. When these yuppies do an unfriendly takeover, it's really unfriendly.
