A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. "Amazing," he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this," and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival. Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The old gentleman paused. Then he said, "Years ago, my wife ran off with a State trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."
"Have a good day, sir," replied the trooper.

(25,367 posts)So, was that 1-94 in North Dakota? That is the flattest, straightest stretch of highway in the US, I believe.

(14,342 posts)for speeding. It was a lonely, straight stretch of highway in Montana at dusk. There had been deer on the road and I had this notion that if I stayed sorta close to the car in front of me, thered be less chance of a deer darting out in front of us. Unfortunately, that car kept going faster and fast till it alerted a waiting patrol car. Needless to say, the cop was NOT impressed with my excuse and gave me a speeding ticket. 🙁

(30,326 posts)very similar and got a ticket for following to close. Ended up being a reckless driving citation and 6 points on my CDL.

(16,987 posts)I generally go as fast as I can without being the fastest on a stretch of highway.
So I see a car up ahead, doing 15-20 over and I decide to match its pace. The car speeds a bit more and so do I. The car pulls over to the shoulder and I realize that I'm trailing an unmarked cruiser.
That was then. Now with my personal speedometer pushing above 75 I drop back to a comfortable rate and leave lots of room.
