Anyone catching 'Childhood's end'' on syfi?

I never thought the book was negative, as some do, but
was about transcendence in the next stage of human consciousness. So far the tv show looks promising to AC Clarke's vision but you know how that goes sometimes when hollywood gets a hold on a good story.

1. I enjoyed the book

...even though I disagree with Clarke's concepts on the evolution of human consciousness. (Which is to say, I agree with him that human consciousness does and will continue to evolve, I just don't believe it will happen the way this particular story postulates.)

I hope the series will be available on Netflix at some point!

3. I read the book as a kid back in probably the early sixties and reread it again a few years ago

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the book stood up on the rereading, to be entirely fair to Clarke I don't think he believed human consciousness will evolve the way he set forth in the book but it it did make for an entertaining and thoughtful read.

4. We watched the first two hours and liked it a lot

I read the book decades ago and don't remember it. If I reread it, I'll wait till after I've watched all six hours of the series.

5. I didn't actually like the book.

I know that is blasphemy. But I kept waiting for the big alien invasion, the proof that everyone who welcomed the changes were suckers and then basically nothing happened. I guess I have become too addicted to things like BSG, Alien Nation, and other evil alien sagas.

The TV show was OK. I thought they did a pretty good job of trying to make the book interesting to a 21st Century, internet- born and raised audience. It wasn't great though.

I much preferred the premiere of The Colony (once again, an evil alien scenario . . . boy have the writers of that show got my number . . .).
