John E. Stith

He's a writer, and I just finished Manhattan Transfer by him. Aliens take Manhattan Island and put it on a huge spaceship, along with other cities from other planets. New Yorkers are not about to take that unchallenged, and so things happen. It's excellent.

What I like best is that Stith doesn't write to a formula, as so many seem to do.

His Redshift Rendezvous is also amazing, and I highly recommend it.

Earthlings interact with inhabitants from other planets as well as the alien abductors on one spaceship.

I have only read four of his books, and have liked them all.

I will warn you that his most recent, Pushback, is a straightforward mystery. When I read it, I kept on waiting for something science-fictional to happen, but it never does. However, it's an incredible read. Man goes to his ten year high school reunion at the small town in Colorado he grew up in, but he does not know or recognize a single person there. Why? That's the starting point, and it's a wonderful book.

That sounds really good.

This author really grabs your attention right from the beginning.
Heck he is grabbing my attention just from a one sentence plot line.

I rarely listen to audio books, but it's great to have this recommendation.

I have listened to relatively few, so I don't know the readers. I do recall that several years ago I listened to an audio book (on CD, listened while on a long drive, if that matters) and I REALLY did not like the narrator.

I know any number of people who mostly listen to books, some because of poor vision, others because it's convenient while they are doing other things. Me, I only listen while in the car on long drives. Which I don't do as much of as I did pre-Covid, alas.

she is sewing or quilting.

Alas, I spend almost no time doing such things. I do spend hours reading.

For me, a small down side of audio books is that I can read at least twice as fast as someone can read the text. So while I'm okay listening while driving, I really prefer reading to listening.

Hooray! I loved the novel, and I think the series will be amazing.
