Played in the old guy scramble, today. As I do nearly every Thursday.
We shotgun & this was 2nd none, so we started on 14.
We birdied 4 of our first 5 holes, then our 7th.
So, we're staring at a 31, unless we birdie our last hole, a par 3 (145 yards today)
I hit 7 iron and was on but not closest to pin, and we're the last of the 5 foursomes. So, if we get one inside the sign, we win.
Other guy playing my tee hit it low & hot so it goes off the back.
The guys over 70 play the forward tees, or 102 yards today.
First guy hits a weak flutterball into the front bunker. Next guy hit 9 iron and bang it hits the stick below ground level. Stays in. He made a hole-in-one on the fly.
There were 4 skins and we got 3 of them, plus both closest to pins & the game. We got $140 of the $160 in the pot. $35 a piece. We would have won with our 31, but we ended up 29.
But, the Ace was worth $10 a piece to us.
And no, he didn't buy drinks. We all think that's a stupid tradition & don't do that.
I was keeping score for the team. First time I ever got to write a one on a scorecard.

(186,993 posts)After a 3 year layoff the boys got back together over the weekend. Weve known each other since high school.
After a year of surgeries and injuries I had hit the range 4 times. Two of the guys havent played in years. The fourth plays at least once a week. I held the individual trophy and our team (really me) had the team trophies. We lost the team competition but I and the frequent player tied over two rounds. I kept the trophy.

(70,307 posts)I hit a good shot, but not that good! I was 20-25 feet away.
This is the first Ace I've seen in person that went straight into the hole, though.
I've probably seen about 8 made (none mine) but straight in on the fly; a first.

(70,307 posts)He lives near another course that's an executive layout.
A couple par 4s on each nine, so 14 par 3s.
Eight of his aces are on that course, none over 130 yards.
He does have one on our course that plays 170, though.
He's a good ball striker, but he doesn't hit irons better than I do. I've got ZERO!
I have had eagles on par 4s 30 something times. The other 40-50 were on par 5s, where I was hitting a sort pitch, chip & a few putts.
Weird that I've managed to knock in 30+ from the fairway but never from a tee box.
