Was not going to watch and support sports washing bone saw money, but the TV turned on to that channel.
Just watched one of the leaders miss the fairway into the "rough" on hole 1. Then second shot hit in "rough" and rolled into fairway. Third shot safely on green to putt for birdie.
The US open she uld have rough so thick that no one should get into it and get a chance at a birdie....much less roll out of rough into a fairway.
Won't watch another minute.
They will come up with some bullshit stays about how this was the best open ever with the mist players under par, furthest under par, etc. This looks as easy as some random tournament in the middle of summer.

(692 posts)I thought the USGA was a wholly separate organization from the PGA Tour.
This has nothing to do with Tour operations. The PGA Tour has no say in anything this week.
In fact, there are guys suspended by the Tour that are eligible to play this week. Even PGA sanctions don't matter.

(70,304 posts)The USGA runs this tournament and is in no way connected to that new Saudi backed merger.
So, even if one is boycotting the PGA Tour, one could watch this tournament.
As to the rough, you have proven you haven't watched much of it.
The rough is BRUTALLY thick & ankle deep.
There is a shot out of the rough every couple minutes where we as viewers can't see the ball, at all.
The issue here is that the course is so firm it's playing shorter than it's listed distance, and they had PERFECT conditions on Thursday. Except for McIlroy, the guys at the top have been 1 or 2 under since Friday.
Your perception of what's going on is substantially in error.

(692 posts)The PGA Tour is like the NFL for golf and the participant players are members. The Tour plays an annual schedule, some at PGA Tour courses, some not. They also rank players within their tour. The USGA is a Much older totally unrelated organization of professional golfers. They have several tournaments through the year and "Tour" players can participate. Like the Masters is not a PGA Tour event but Tour players can participate if they make the cut. Others may know more and provide more accurate info.
