(2,475 posts)I know the history somewhat - was not watching in the Lance Armstrong days. Didn't like him.
I keep my eye on 2 or 3 riders from Peru/Ecuador, etc.
Egon Bernal, Nairo Quintana, etc. Don't know if NQ is in the tour this year.
As for teams, I follow EF and 1 or 2 others.
I like the back and forth between Phil Liggett and Bob Roll, both for the history and the humor.
I don't watch horseracing and I will never watch LIV golf, but can't resist the French countryside rolling by as well as the terrifying descents and switchbacks in the mountains.
We usually record it if we're going to be out. I know there are real problems and I really wish there were more poc in the Tour, but we may not get back to France, so it's our little substitute.

This is one of the great races
Armstrong- Pantini.
secondly, I think Bill Burr got it right.

(2,475 posts)co-announcer Paul Sherwen, who died in 2018. I came late to watching the Tour.

(24,145 posts)Thanks for posting.
I used to be seriously into the Tour years ago, when I was seriously into cycling. Now, I couldn't name a single rider.

(2,133 posts)For Simpson who died on that climb from taking speed. They erected a monument for him. This is for someone who was cheating which shows you what the riders and the tour thinks about this.
It always kills me people who have no idea of the history of the tour commenting on the tour.

(6,329 posts)The Tour is sort of my sport for July. Have crossed paths with it a couple of times over the years. Enjoy the coverage and, of course, the French countryside.
Last weekend, attended USA Cycling professional national championships in Knoxville. They have been in Knoxville for the past seven years. Normally moves every couple of years, but Covid disrupted that. Don't know where it goes next.

(90 posts)I enjoy watching the Tour de France and I will probably watch most of the stages, if not all of them. I've thought it would be fun to be there during that time but it seems the crowds are a bit too much for me. If I could sit alongside the race course and sip a cold drink at a village cafe, then I would be content. I know I will never go there and it is a silly dream for me. I am glad it is on television.

(32,234 posts)But most of the damn race is now on Peacock. 🤬 🤬 🤬

(2,475 posts)So have to figure how to stream peacock.
As it stands now, on weekends we watch the Tour on French TV. Tv5monde. I translate a bit for my husband.
During the week we watch the Liggett and Roll broadcast.
If it's only going to be streaming I guess that means 1 more freaking channel you have to buy for one event.
Pain in the arse- can you record Peacock?

(2,475 posts)at least thru 7/14. (The guide only goes out that far for now.)
But, with some exceptions, the timing is such that a race is shown at 2am that night, ie., on the following "day".
At least it can be recorded unlike Peacock.
I'll see myself out now....

(61,302 posts)I have Comcast Xfinity, and because Peacock is part of Comcast - Universal - NBC - Xfinity - Omni Consumer Products, I watch it on Peacock.
As for, "you can't record it," if your Roku or equivalent device sends its signal to your display via a USB or HDMI cable, I suspect that you could find a way to record the programming. Is there a USB or HDMI signal input port on your recording device?
As for laptops et al., I don't know if their HDMI ports are bi-directional. If so, they'll take a signal as well as send a signal.

(2,475 posts).Checked again and USA HD
looks to be showing race on tape delay at least through the 13th and probably straight through.
So, we'll record the 2am feed and watch next am.
Pretty damn exciting so far...
