Guy Fieri's hot car found in teen's storage locker

A brazen thief rappels from the roof of a San Francisco car dealership, a celebrity chef's prized car is stolen, and a year later, a man in black opens fire on a young couple.

It was all a mysterious kaleidoscope of crime until last weekend, when investigators tied it all to a storage container in Richmond where they found a bright yellow Lamborghini and a teenager with a gun.

Now, there's a whole new mystery as investigators try to find out who this 17-year-old kid is, why he allegedly shot at two people in Mill Valley last month and what other crimes he may have committed. And, while they're at it, what the heck he thought he was going to do with a stolen $200,000 car.

The "Mission: Impossible"-style heist on March 8, 2011, at the exclusive Van Ness Avenue dealership baffled San Francisco investigators, who later that week spotted the car on surveillance cameras rumbling across the Golden Gate Bridge and breezing into wealthy Tiburon.

The convertible, known to car buffs as a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, was found Saturday in the possession of a 17-year-old San Rafael resident, who was allegedly keeping it in a rented Richmond storage locker.

3. Update: Escape attempt linked to Guy Fieri's Lamborghini

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—At least two suspects tried to break into a Marin County juvenile detention facility in what investigators believe was unsuccessful attempt to free a teenager accused of stealing a celebrity chef's Lamborghini, authorities said Friday.

The attempted break-in happened at Marin County Juvenile Hall about 4:30 a.m. Friday when staff heard banging on the walls and saw "at least two people out there with a sledge hammer," said Sheriff's Lt. Barry Heying.

The suspects fled before more than 40 deputies and other officers arrived at the scene and searched the buildings and neighborhood.

Investigators believe the suspects were trying to free Max Wade, who is charged with stealing TV chef Guy Fieri's $200,000 yellow Lamborghini from a San Francisco car dealership in March 2011. The San Rafael teen also faces attempted murder charges for trying to gun down a couple in Mill Valley in April.

6. Wow! What an incredible story.

I'd never heard of this, and while the young man may have appreciated the Lambo more than a egotistical TV chef, he would have been caught someday. It's too hard to sell a stolen Lambo, and it'd be a shame if it were chopped into parts.

I wonder if the insurance was paid to Fieri. If so, the car belongs to an insurance company now.
