Am planning to purchase a new(er) truck. I currently drive a 02 Ford Ranger, 4L Mazda engine, auto, air, all power.
Since Ford no longer makes the Ranger for domestic sale I have been looking for another truck.
Ford F-150, crew cab, XLT package, 3.5L Ecoboost engine.
Maker claims 18 city, 23 hyway. Most all of the owners that I have talked to say they get that, and more.
Not to sure about the Techie of the Ecoboost system, but it has been around for several years.
I need to go to a larger vehicle as my company is expanding and I need the room for the crew.(Also my 5'9" 14yr old says the jump seat is too darn small)
Any comments and/or information?

(10,185 posts)To me, this means full synthetic oil is a must, changed at reasonable intervals. And I suspect that the fuel system will be a lot happier with good, clean gasoline, and a new fuel filter every now 'n then.

(8,614 posts)religiosly every 5000 miles with a new filter(Fram). Thats how I got 270,000+miles from the factory engine.
As for gas, I use Shell as often as possable, Chevron next and as a last resort Exxon.
However I will admit that I didn't change the fuel filter till 120,000 miles.
I take very good care of my vehicles, they are a big part of my means of making a living.

(8,614 posts)Goining to start looking at dealers on line listings. If I can find one that fits with 15-20,000 miles on it, and a dealers "quality inspection", I can save $10-12000 off the top. Ford restartes the warrenty at the milage shown if the vehicle passes it's checks.

(17,064 posts)V-6's today make pretty good power. More than old inline 6's, and almost equal to old carburated V-8s. If you normally don't carry big loads, pull heavy trailer, or drive on steep hills or at high altitudes, a naturally-aspirated V-6 probably has all the power you need. Saves on initial purchase price and maintainence/potential problems down the road. I have a Toyota T-100 with a 3.4 V-6, its got plenty of power.

(8,614 posts)F-150 crew cab with 3.5L twin turbo engine. Tow/haul controls, sway control, 6' bed w/spray on liner.
Been looking at 011's and 012's and bought a 013 for about $2000 more than a used truck.
With the tow package it is listed at 11000lbs.
Will pick it up tomorrow. Can't wait!!!!

(8,614 posts)21 hiway/ 18 city. Rented a car hauler trailer and towed the Ranger to Hearne Texas. Averaged 15 MPG at 65mph over the rolling hills of central Texas. Plenty of power, only came out of 6th when almost topping the steepest hills.
Gave the Ranger to a friend and his wife as they have had no running vehicle for several months. It is 32 miles to the nearest grocery store and they were depending on there son to take them.
He almost cried, she did. I also paid for the title transfer and filled the tank.
Live long and prosper.
