Ceramic vs steel brake pads

I felt the man at an auto repair shop was pushing ceramic pads.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra he quoted $350 to replace rear pads. I always changed my own, but health concerns prevent me from doing it myself so I don’t know the pricing now.

Is there a big price difference between ceramic and metal?

I don’t drive much. A tank of gas lasts me two months.

then the price seems excessive. Ceramic pads aren't much more in my experience.

2. I had them put on a 2014 Nissan SUV w/ AWD and they were said to be lifetime pads.

They lasted around 50K miles, then were replaced under the mfg. warranty.
For the first 6-months (daily driver), the brake pads would make a loud and awful squeal when backing down/out of the driveway.
Would not recommend.

I had them put on at one of those auto service centers that bears the name of a major tire manufacturer.

Price seems excessive to me. Ceramics are not much more expensive to purchase.
