Related: About this forumI ordered a new Subaru!
I haven't had a NEW car since 2006. I was lucky - I ordered it in May, just after Subaru re-started production on Imprezas. They keep having to halt production on certain models because of parts shortages. But I got my order in just after they opened up production again.
It's supposed to take 3-4 months to arrive.
Today, the dealer informed me that instead of it taking three months to arrive, it will arrive this month. That's a lot quicker than anticipated.
Anyway, I'm excited. I've been driving an old car and it constantly gives me issues. I am so excited to have a new and dependable car under warranty!

(494 posts)Same story. Last new car in 2006. But instead of ordering, I found several on the lot at a dealership near my MIL's house in Florida. Drove down in May to pick her up and have nearly 5000 miles already.
Still not used to all the bells and whistles yet. Lordy there are bells and whistles!!
I hope your new Subby is everythink you hoped for! I love mine.

(2,199 posts)My sister in law loves her Subaru, she has the Ascent. I've know a few others who own Subaru's and they all seem to love them. I've got a new car on the way as well, but I'll be waiting much longer, January 2023 at the earliest it's looking.

(9,726 posts)With 3 kids they needed the 3rd seat. Got it new in 2019 and shes still very happy with it. Great for long trips with 2 adults, 3 kids, 2 dogs and tons of stuff.

(2,199 posts)3 kids with a 4th on the way now. They had been planning for a 4th when they bought it, so they knew they were going to need a bigger vehicle.

(25,968 posts)We live in snow country and they are great!
We keep them till they run no more.
Husband's '04 Subaru "trailhead car" has 300K miles on it! Manual transmission.
Enjoy!
Is it your 1st Sub?
New car smell....mmmmm.... 😀

(18,017 posts)My older daughter loves her Outback.
When I went to buy the Crosstrek in 2020, I did not research - just sought out the best price I could find (grabbing the ugly duckling on the lot which is my usual pattern). Both my daughters already had their Subarus and liked them. My SIL also liked her Impreza.

(6,115 posts)This will be my second Subie. I had a little dinky hatchback in 1988 (Subaru Justy - anybody remember that one?) and I drove it HARD. The only thing that went wrong with that car was that I needed to replace the manual clutch after 110K miles. Not bad for driving it in hilly country. It was still running after 16 years when I donated it to a charity when my husband and I bought a new car.
Now I live in Michigan and I vowed I would get AWD for my next car. My current car has FWD and it's pretty decent in snow but you can't beat AWD with traction control.
As soon as the dealer sends me the VIN, I'm getting my Badge of Ownership: https://www.badgeofownership.com/UI/dist/ It's free!
I'm so excited!

(1,432 posts)Rarely drive it these days, bought new in 1993, still running as designed. Subaru will send us a Badge of ownership, which is very kewl. There are very few SVXs in the southeast, in fact very few anywhere these days. Subaru dealers were few & far between till the next century down here.
.
Have fun, and pay very close attention to the service recommendations.

(13,540 posts)She drives a 2014, the last year Subaru offered a stick with the Outback. She's more dedicated to 3-pedal driving than I am -- and all my cars since 1980 have been 5 speed manuals (currently 2016 VW Golf).
She needs a car with the cargo capacity of the Outback, and is not looking forward to settling for an automatic or CVT.
My next car will probably be an EV, and I won't mind giving up shifting my own gears to help the environment

(6,115 posts)But I injured my hip and need hip replacement so I won't be able to clutch for some time. The CVT has a sort of manual mode. I'm looking forward to seeing how it works. I love shifting and all of my cars were manuals except for this one.

(6,115 posts)I haven't picked it up yet but the dealer said it just arrived!
The only problem is that because of the parts shortage I don't have the fog lights I ordered. So I asked the dealer to see what he can do. Can we order them and install them later? Can we do an after-market kit?
I'll pick it up within the next couple of days. That took only a little over four weeks. I bought the base model and I didn't order much custom stuff, so maybe that's why it didn't take long. I thought it wasn't going to arrive until August!
