Related: About this forumGiants drop three bigly to Washington Nationals.
Outscored 21-5 in three games. Ouch.
Farhan Zaidi had been talking about getting one starter and maybe a shortstop at the trade deadline.
It's looking more like he needs three starting pitchers, and 6 hitters.
FWIW, the strategy of platooning righty versus lefty and vice versa, resulting in 5 runs in 3 games is not working well.

(14,352 posts)But you sure missed a bonanza.
F.P. Santangelo, who was announcing for Washington, is back in SF, doing a fine job on the call (or is the color?).

(14,352 posts)Where were the jet lag, heat, exhaustion and injuries when they were on a win streak?
Big inputs by rookies then.
Not to downplay the injured. They are working hard to recover and contribute.

(37,960 posts)The (5-5) Giants are tied with the (2-8) Diamondbacks for second, four game behind the red hot (7-3) Dodgers.

(14,352 posts)Diamondbacks were red hot. (Literally and figuratively)
Go figure.
Giants are playing a make-up game in Detroit this morning. Miguel Cabrera just got a hit. Still playing.
I almost feel guilty recognizing the names of players that the old-time hosts chat about.
Of course, Al Kaline's name came up for the series.
He never copyrighted or trademarked Alkaline!
But he didn't. ( Something tells me he couldn't )

(31,850 posts)two against the A's and a day off. Really tough schedule following that: Red Sox, D-Backs, Rangers, Rays, Braves, Phillies ...
August will make or break them

(37,960 posts)Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow announcing. Jon Miller stepping for an inning or two is just the icing on the cake.

(37,960 posts)Funny side story about Peacock baseball: Pete McCloskey lives in my area, and last year he went on a tear on the local community chat thingy asking why the cable company wasn't carrying the game; he had a season subscription to the Giants TV games.
He quickly learned the game was the first Peacocked broadcast game for the season, and the community jumped right in and proceeded to explained how he could get the game on the internet for free. One bar even invited him down for a cold one and watch the game.
Pete McCloskey is a huge Giants fan!
Dave Flemming is the other cog at KNBR

(14,352 posts)So in 4 games, it's 26-6, and if I heard John Miller right, Wilmer Flores got 5 HR's on the trip, including the only run today.
I went over to the site and this is funny. Some guy in a 28 jersey (doesn't that sound familiar?) caught Wilmer's HR.
Probably not Posey (or a Posey jersey)
What I can't understand are the three-pitch outs, and the "CALL STRIKE THREE" ...or the "SWINGING STRIKE THREE". Way too many of them.
Are opposing managers pranking the vaunted SF Giants analytics by asking pitchers to do the exact opposite of what's charted? That is, throw a slow curve when the statistics say "first pitch fastball?"
Analytics are always an average, and you can always prank averages by doing the opposite of what they say you'll do.
Just wondering. Analytics make you predictable, just as much as, or even more than the opposition you're measuring.
On edit: this is REALLY CRITICAL, because management (including their Maga owner) has to decide "buy or sell" like right now, and I am guessing that a fire sale is going to cause more grief than a buy decision.
