(62,728 posts)... though I admit that Jacobs has that old time ball flavor, though I couldn't afford a game, parking and a meal.
We've considered moving back and into the Terminal Tower Apts, but we waited too long and now we're too old. All my Cleveland family and a lot of my friends are dead or moved.

(62,728 posts)... hot and cool off. I still loved them. I remember sitting in Muny Stadium in '60 and watching the Yankees beat then 4-0.

(35,504 posts)Seems like they always lost their home opener.
I remember that cavernous Muni Stadium, too. Always smelled like stale beer. But you could buy tickets at the box office right before the game and get great seats!

(62,728 posts)... it was the largest ball venue for years. The lake breeze that made it all right in the summer, made it a freezer in the winter.

(6,193 posts)From Wikipedia:
With the game-time temperature at 4 °F (−16 °C), the coldest National Football League game since the Ice Bowl of December 31, 1967, the first quarter contained nothing but punts and interceptions, with Cleveland's Ron Bolton and Oakland's Lester Hayes each recording one of the latter.
Trailing 1412 with less than a minute remaining in the game, the Browns had the ball on the Raiders' 13-yard line and were in position for a potential game-winning field goal. Sipe conferred with head coach Sam Rutigliano, who called a pass play, "Red Slot Right, Halfback Stay, 88," and instructed Sipe to "throw it into Lake Erie" (throwing the ball out of play as it was only 2nd down), if the play was anything less than wide open. On the next play, Sipe forced a pass to tight end Ozzie Newsome. However, it was intercepted in the end zone by Raiders safety Mike Davis, who had cut in front of Newsome's square-out pass route, putting an end to the Browns' season. Oakland subsequently advanced to the AFC conference championship, where they defeated the San Diego Chargers and went on to win Super Bowl XV against the Philadelphia Eagles.
It was da@@ed cold, I tell you. Especially from the bleachers

Oh yeah, those guys ... one of those small mid-west franchises near the bottom of overall team payroll with rosters of exciting, young major and minor league talent, the most effective bullpen in baseball, the best closer in baseball, the best hitter in baseball, and one the best overall players in baseball.
Thanks for the reminder, Diamond_Dog.

Only other thing is the new manager who never managed before. Whod a thought this team was going to be anywhere above 3rd place at the beginning of the season, especially after losing Shane Bieber!

(31,973 posts)Vogt is a leading candidate for Manager of the Year, you know?
Did you follow that Baltimore game last night? Wow!
Hope they can land a starter who can burn innings. Biggest need right now IMO.

(38,118 posts)Oh, but to be a fly on the wall in the radio booth when Bob "I don't need a script" Uecker ad-libbed. He had a blast doing it, and by all accounts, Uecker had the actor/ballplayers on the field in stitches.
