No walk in park for Lincecum, but...
If Tim Lincecum needs something to help him sleep better after walking six Twins on Friday night, he should know that Nolan Ryan walked at least that many in 58 of his 324 career wins.
Ryan could get away with it because he had power to strike out a record 5,714 hitters. Lincecum needs to walk fewer - a lot fewer. When he can walk six in six innings and win, as he did in Friday night's 6-2 Giants victory, he needs to offer the offense a great, big thank you.
Then again, in winning for the second time in his career while walking at least six Lincecum held Minnesota to two runs in a rally keyed by Joe Mauer's third-inning triple. Lincecum played a lot of dodgeball.
The Giants played a lot of long ball in joining the A's as the majors' lone teams with 30 wins. Pablo Sandoval staked Lincecum to a big lead with a three-run homer in the first inning and Brandon Hicks hit a solo, both off starter Kyle Gibson.
