Giants score, but not enough to overtake A's
A's fans are loving life, as they should. For the first time, their team has 57 wins by the All-Star break and got there by decimating the team across the bay twice.
During the A's four-run third inning in Tuesday night's 6-1 victory against the Giants, the fans down the right-field line were especially frisky and got into it with Hunter Pence, who enjoyed the exchange.
"They're a lot of fun out there," Pence said. "They're creative, they're rowdy, they're loud. It's a baseball atmosphere that's fun to play in. They razzed me a little bit, then I kind of made a play. I was a little fired up."
What happened in that inning perfectly illustrated the different places in which the A's and Giants reside, one team completing a 6-0 homestand, the other losing for the 20th time in 27 games and being spared consecutive shutouts only when Tyler Colvin hit a seventh-inning homer against Sonny Gray.
