An extremely rare sighting': Mangrove Cuckoo sighted in Galveston County for first time in 40 years

A Mangrove Cuckoo was sighted for the second time ever in Galveston County last weekend at East End Lagoon Nature Preserve.

Pictures of the bird were captured on World Migratory Bird Day by photojournalist Bob Becker and biologist Clayton Leopold, Galveston Island said in a Facebook post on May 13.

"We were just sent these pics by Bob Becker and Clayton Leopold of an extremely rare sighting of a Mangrove Cuckoo," the post said.

Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council confirmed that this is only the second time that this species has been seen in Galveston County, the first time was in 1982.
