(33,643 posts)1982 was a tough year for those of us from the Bay Area who'd grown up Oakland Raiders fans. Our team leaves for LA and suddenly our long-time-loser cross-bay rival was the baddest team in the league, in a really sudden fashion?
It was tough. Granted I was only 16 or so in 82.
I'll be rooting for them in the playoffs cause I don't care at all about any other team that's in them this year.
And I'ma make a prediction ... the HATED Chiefs will have an unceremonious exit via the Bills or Bengals, at Arrowhead. I love when they lose at Arrowhead, and I get to imagine their fans shuffling out, sad and dejected.
I'm sure many Chiefs fans think the same way about Raider fans

(31,845 posts)Who wouldn't? The Raiders were always the late game in home state Ohio. Saw them all the time growing up. Talk about badass. Stabler, Branch, Casper, Hayes, Hendricks, Matuszak, Shell, Madden ...
Then Al Davis traded Ken Stabler. Broke my heart. When Montana and Walsh started to click I jumped ship.

(33,643 posts)At Youell Field, like from the start.
He grew up in Oakland and I was born in Oakland (364 days after Kamala was), and I went to my first game at OACC in 1975 with him when I was 9.
It was never really an option to NOT be a Raider fan.
My little brother (who's married to Tony LaRussa's daughter) and Plunkett last year.
And here's my Raiders tix. Funnily, Suite L42 was Al's box. Not that I ever sat in it, I just got those tix from my dad's buddy, his dad used to sit with Al in the box. It was just 'a way in to the game'.

(5,124 posts)The 1981 playoffs saw three all-time classic games, the Epic in Miami, the Freezer Bowl, and the Catch. Super Bowl XVI was almost anti-climatic (unless you're a 49ers fan) to the three playoff games.
