Football

different kind of game but fun to watch. CBS sports is carrying a lot of the games but I imaging once the US pros start playing that will end.

(5,131 posts)They'd start out strong with games each week, and then once the NFL pre-season started, they'd pretty much push them to the side. Then, some Sunday on November, I'd look at the sports listings ad see the Grey Cup was being played.
It's not the NFL, but for this American it's a good distraction during the summer.

(63,254 posts)I think it may be the outrageous money in American pro sports, but I quit watching baseball somewhere @ 2000 and haven't watched pro football in about that same span.I do watch the NBA but only in the playoffs.
But I do love sports. Since I live very close to a Big Ten school and deal with them for many things (Iowa) I am a huge college football & basketball fan, although the money may drive me from that also. (How about that Caitlin Clark???)
I have watched the Canadian game for years but as you noted ESPN would carry it for a few weeks and then drop it as soon as the NFL farted. But this year CBS Sports channel seems to be. carrying more and for longer. They have a couple of games this weekend.
I like their rules, especially the 3 down rule and the longer, wider field. There have been many games that have gone to the last minute. I would simply rather watch their more wide open game that the proverbial 'No Fun League.' CBS Sports is carrying something like 34 games, so I am hoping there are many more to come.

(5,131 posts)Intentional, fat-fingering or Freudian slip?
I enjoy the difference in rules/style, though I occasionally forget there's no fourth down coming (Why on earth are they punting on third-...oh, yeah").
I'm a football and hockey fan, having given up on baseball when the '94 strike happened (and I was a Tigers fan, so I hear these days there's not much to cheer for there now, anyway), so when hockey finally wraps up in the spring, it's a couple of dead months for me until pre-season NFL and college for realsies start up. So, the CFL is a nice filler. I'm not much vested in the outcomes and just enjoy it for the distraction. I do sorta root for the Argos, and feel a bit sorry for them that they seem to draw so few fans. And, I like to watch some individual college players, like the Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros, who played down the road from me at the U of Cincinnati.

(63,254 posts)I also hate the way sports casters deify US pro football players. About the only sports writer I ever read is Dave Zirin.
I feel I am much like you. I used to play a little rugby and would sure love to see that, but that is too far out for US tv.
Anyway there are CFL games on CBS sports on Thursday and Saturday although tomorrow's probably will be a blowout - Bombers against the Elks. The Elks really suck this year
