Ex-NFL linebacker and Texas native charged with insurance fraud

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A former National Football League linebacker is facing charges for what prosecutors say was a $1.5 million scheme to defraud a Sacramento insurance company.

The U.S. attorney's office said Friday that 42-year-old Marcus Buckley, who played seven seasons for the New York Giants, has been charged with wire fraud and money laundering. Buckley, of Weatherford, is accused of filing false worker's compensation claims for football-related stress injuries.

Also charged is Kimberly Jones, a claims adjuster formerly of West Sacramento who conspired with Buckley. Jones worked for Gallagher Bassett Services Inc., which handled worker's comp claims against the Giants.

The U.S. attorney says Buckley received more than $1,588,000 to which he was not entitled.
