"Archived NASA satellite images confirm there were no tropical storms around Hawaii that day," the AP reports. "Appel expressed surprise that there was no record of the storm. She said they received a Coast Guard storm warning while sailing after sunset on May 3."

The Coast Guard told the AP that it made radio contact with a boat that identified itself as the Sea Nymph in June near Tahiti. But the boat's captain said they were not in distress and expected to make land the following day, though that would have been after the boat had lost its engines and had damaged rigging and mast. - NPR

3. I Wouldn't Know From Their Picture That They Were Lost At Sea For Five Months.....

they weathered the experience really well. I also remember seeing two dogs on their boat. I heard that they had a large supply of oatmeal and pasta. Did the dogs eat that as well. What did they do for water? Did they have a supply of water on the boat or did they drink rain water that they may have recovered?

Well - good on them if they really lived through the experience they described.

On the other side - if this was all contrived - they have good imaginations and fodder for both a book and a movie. Maybe this was a get rich quick scheme. Who knows?
