Related: About this forumHeading out deer hunting in Uvalde, Texas, Friday!
The 200-acre tract fronts State 55 along the Nueces River. Even with the drought, deer are reported to be plentiful. Temps will be in mid-50s throughout Christmas weekend, sunny, with low-moderate winds out of the north. Should be loads of fun. Hoping to see an exotic (like an axis deer), but will be out after whitetails, too. I can post up under a tree or still-hunt. The place is great for both hunting styles!

On a side note I did pull a deer out of the road last night someone had hit about 1/4 mile from my house.
I shot a medium-sized doe to add to the small buck I got earlier in the season. Stews, chili, meatballs, and steaks are already finding their way through Austin's sewer system.
Can you legally take road-kill in your state? Can't in Texas, but where I grew up in Florida, it was okay.
When in Uvalde on the last day, and leaving the pasture, we came across an axis (deer of India) which had hung herself up in the goat fence. I was at first startled to see my hunting buddy get out of the car to rescue the frantic deer. He grabbed her bodily from behind, and I twisted the fencing to free her leg. She took off, no worse for wear. Probably confused: Are these two-legged things out to kill us or save us?
Way to go with the doe.
A Swedish Mauser is gathering dust at home. One of these days it must go out hunting.
